To close out Black History Month, I wanted to leave you with this piece of artwork by Erin McKenna - which I find to be far more profound than she intended.
I laughed when I first realized what it was, but then I recognized that this is actually the way we have objectified, simplified and commodified the pillar of our community. Maybe I thought too much of it, but I find this image to be a striking derivative of the way we reference ourselves. I hope that in realizing more about our history and ourselves we can create a more desirable image.
By the way: this is a long-haired, thick, red bone.
